I am an actor, filmmaker, and dramaturg/literary manager. I like to create stories by adding life -both directly and indirectly- to the stage and screen. This can mean being on stage, behind the camera, or sometimes through the quiet, often invisible work of arts administration and literary management . For me, all of it is storytelling; all of it is creating.
While growing up in rural Western Maryland, I was given the gift of appreciating the details, the quiet, and the space that will always stay with me. But there is a lot of distance that comes with that place- either that’s between people, or places, or just ways of viewing things. I craved more connection. I search to know and to be known. This search is at the core of everything I create.
I believe that this world is in an empathy drought. People feel too different from one another. I’m drawn to spaces where we realize just how similar we are, how much we need each other. I’m interested in the humanness we see in everything and everyone- even when we want to ignore it. What happens when we face it? Or, even celebrate it? What would that look like? What would that feel like? As an actor, I approach my work as a vessel for raw human connection- where the use of honesty and vulnerability traces invisible threads between us as a reminder we are all deeply connected. As a Literary Manager and Dramaturg, I see the opportunity to bridge audiences to the art and creating actual interactive dialogue that leads to a call to action outside of the theater. As a filmmaker, I’m interested in how technical choices can quietly invite empathy through the screen while guiding us closer together. As an arts administrator, I see structure and support as artistry; like crafting programs, support systems, and spaces that give every kind of artist an opportunity to create their stories.
My family and my community continue to inspire me daily- with all of their complexities, contradictions, and deep capacity for love and care. They remind me that connection to each other is all we really have. I want to create art that brings us back to each other. I want people to leave the theater and feel something real- enough to call their mom. Enough to grab a drink with a friend they haven’t seen in a year. Enough to smile at a stranger on the walk home. I hope to have my work open that door, even if it’s just a little.
